I've been
selling tactical gear since 1998. Since
that time, the tactical gear industry has
exploded into a huge assortment of manufacturers
and dealers. Before 9/11 the tactical gear
industry was practically non-existent.
Sure, there were a few companies selling
tactical gear, but not many directly focused it
as a specialty.
Now there's more
tactical gear companies than you can shake a
stick at! This is good and bad. It's
good in the sense that we've seen so much
innovation in tactical gear. Never before
has so much research and development gone into
tactical gear products. I call it the
Tactical Gear Revolution.
But the other
side of the coin is what I like to call the
"Tactical Gear Bandwagon". A lot of people
are jumping on board because there's money to be
made. They simply see an opportunity for
making money in the new tactical gear market.
Personally I feel that you need to understand
the products you sell. I don't believe in
selling something just because I can make money
on it. This brings me to my next point.
There's
multiple divisions within the tactical gear
industry. I break them down into three
main categories; Military/Law Enforcement,
Enthusiast, & Airsoft/Paintball. Tactical
gear started out designed, obviously, for
military and law enforcement personnel. In
the past few years we've seen A LOT of tactical gear
coming out designed for tactical shooting
enthusiasts and airsoft players.
It's important
to understand what level of tactical gear you're
buying. If you're buying something for
military or law enforcement duty, make sure it's
really designed for that type of use. Just
because it says "tactical" doesn't mean it fits
your needs. The same is true for the
enthusiasts and airsoft players. You don't
need a $1000 tactical rifle scope to enjoy your
sport.
Research the
tactical gear company you're considering doing
business with. What is their background?
How long have they been in business. Do
they sell tactical gear for your needs?
It's a great
time to be a tactical shooter. There's
more tactical gear options than you can imagine.
Almost too many some times. Just do your
research and ensure you're getting the tactical
gear that will perform the way you need it to.
